Let It Go Now is a very personal song about a nearly lifelong friendship that deteriorated over a disagreement over politics. Like many these days, our over 30 plus year friendship had never even talked about politics until these recent times. Once we knew early on that we agreed to disagree about politics, we agreed to not talk about politics. And for nearly 4 years we did just that, until one day when my friend decided that our friendship no longer was more valuable than his politics. The lyric in the second verse “You keep on spitting in my face” was metaphorical over his rage and his very hurtful and disrespectful comments he had made about my son. Keep in mind that my friend was there the day my son was born. To me, the disrespect was all to hurtful and real, and literally felt like getting spit in the face. The angry, grungy music on the chorus was matched with a desperate lyrical plea. My frustration over where our friendship had ended cumulated with the simple chorus phrase “Why couldn't you just let it go now?” After nearly 4 years of successfully prioritizing our friendship over politics I just felt like, “why couldn't you just let it go?” If you've ever had a bad fall out with a friend or family member this song may resonate all too well.
